Gail Anderson is the former creative director of design at SpotCo. From 1987 to early 2002, she served as senior art director at Rolling Stone magazine.
Anderson’s work, which has received numerous awards, is in the permanent collections of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the Library of Congress. She is co-author, with Steven Heller, of six design books and the upcoming New Modern Type.
Anderson teaches in the School of Visual Arts and is the recipient of the 2008 AIGA Medal, and the 2009 Richard Gangel art direction award from the Society of Illustrators.
In this audio interview with Debbie Millman, Gail Anderson discusses making little magazines as a child, having Paula Scher as a teacher, her first job at Vintage, working at Rolling Stone for fifteen years, leaving magazine work for theater work and what the next chapter in her life holds.

I think she's way pass the "people to watch" stage by now. Has Gail ever been mentioned in any of the Meggs "A History of Graphic Design" books? cause she's an icon now.

I was 16 when I discovered design. I loved her Rollingstone work and Paula Scher's work for the Public and I so much wanted to emulate it. Somewhere between then and now I found my own style and voice.
It is nice to equate talent with wisdom and kindness.
