Chris Ware is widely acknowledged to be the most gifted and beloved cartoonist of his generation by both his mother and his teenage daughter, as well as the rest of the universe. His first book, Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth, was listed as one of the 100 best books of the decade by the New York Times in 2009. In 2012 his opus, Building Stories, was named a top 10 book of the year by both the New York Times and Time magazine. His newest book is Rusty Brown. Chris was on Design Matters back in 2012, at the urging of mutual friend, Chip Kidd. Chip is a designer, a best selling author, and the most famous book jacket designer alive. As an editor and art director for Pantheon graphic novels, he’s worked with and published some of the very best cartoonists in the world, including Chris, his dear friend of 27 years.
On this episode Debbie talks to designer Chip Kidd and his good friend, graphic novelist Chris Ware.
